Enjoy your New Year's Eve at the Irish Cultural Centre in Black's Road, Hammersmith, where the Dublin City Workingman's Band will be playing.

The band has a large repertoire of Irish ballads and will be supported by The Rogans.

A chess club aimed at breaking down barriers for Russian speakers has been launched in Fulham.

Yalta, the Association of Russian Speaking Communities in Hammersmith and Fulham, is holding the club every Saturday between 4-6pm in the Peabody Estate Community Hall, Lillie Road.

Adventurous young members of a Hammersmith-based circus school passed their achievement certificates with flying colours, writes Robert Szmigielski.

The awards were presented to five youngsters and the artistic director of Albert & Friends Instant Circus at the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards at London's Mermaid Conference & Events Centre.

The circus, which is celebrating it's 25th year, teaches circus skills such as juggling and stilt walking to youngsters, and has over 300 members.

Fulham footballer honoured

Fulham Football Club is hoping to unveil a statue of the player known as the 'Maestro' by their ground.

The memorial to legend Johnny Haynes, who died three years ago, will be built outside Craven Cottage in Stevenage Road, Fulham, if Hammersmith and Fulham Council grant planning permission.

Bishop's Park Meeting

The Friends of Bishop Park will be holding its annual meeting on September 25.

It will be held at 7.30pm in St Etheldreda's Church Hall, on the corner of Cloncurry Street and Fulham Place Road, Fulham.

Around the fireside

The Irish Cultural Centre is holding a storytelling session called 'Around the fireside' on Friday at 7.30pm with special guest Mike Burns. Entry £4.

Also on Friday at 7.30pm is a free celebration of Irish music which is held on the second Friday of every month.

Group Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, the largest group involved in the preservation of Irish music, will play on the night.
