Two residents have been appointed to the board of NHS Hammersmith and Fuham.

The PCT, now renamed NHS Hammersmith and Fulham, appoints local people to the trust's board of directors to make sure residents' views are represented.

Between November 10-15 everyone who uses the services will be asked to fill in a questionnaire.



Obesity costs soar

Obesity cost borough health bosses £53.4 million last year and the figure is set to soar as thousands of people over eat and exercise less.

Figures released by the Department of Health predict that by 2015 the estimated cost of treating obesity-related disease at Hammersmith and Fulham Primary Care Trust (PCT) will be £59.2m.

Currently 15 per cent of adults and 25 per cent of children in the borough are obese and experts are certain the number will expand as we become an increasingly fat society.

Hammersmith Hospital will have one of the biggest cardiovascular facilities in Europe with the construction of a new £100m research facility.

The flagship project promises to deliver research from the laboratory straight to the patient's bedside quicker than ever before.

The sites of the L and J blocks of the hospital in Du Cane Road, will be cleared for a new six-storey building which will comprise a three-storey cardiovascular research facility, a high tech imaging unit and the Medical Research Council's genomics centre, which will study common diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, obesity and heart disease.

Residents in White City are to get a new health centre and 70 affordable homes, despite efforts to prevent the scheme going ahead.

A decision to grant planning permission for the development in Bloemfontein Road, W12, was made by Hammersmith and Fulham Council in July after extensive consultation.

Silver cyclists are gearing up for a cycling bonanza at the London Freewheel.

Hammersmith and Fulham's Agewell on Wheels group will be taking part in the family-friendly Londonwide event next Sunday (Septmber 21).

The London Freewheel will give tens of thousands of riders the chance to cycle on roads closed to non-cycle traffic past the capital's most iconic landmarks.
